Building the dream

Marija Sutich’s is a dream home in the truest sense. It was a dream for us to build and it’s now a dream for her to live in. We met her when she was moving to Auckland from the family farm up North. She had nine months to buy or build before her daughter’s wedding and time was running short. We had to find Marija some land.

Looking for land

Marija first met Jalcon Design and Build consultant Joan Chan at the Chapel Road Showhome. “I was starting to get quite worried. Joan could see I was running out of options” says Marija. “So, she offered to take me for a drive to look at some Jalcon land she thought would interest me. I immediately saw a section with a great view of the reserve. Now I look straight down to the native bush from my lounge”.

Immaculate timing

Joan assured Marija that the home could be completed in time for the wedding. She also advised that although Marija was after a single level home, the site would require a split-level building. “They finished the house perfectly and even cleaned it before I moved in. It was immaculate. They welcomed me with a gift basket, a bottle of wine and handed me the keys. Three weeks later I had sixty guests over for my daughter’s wedding. It worked perfectly”.

 
A family home again

Family is at the heart of Marija’s home, and we designed it with that in mind. “My mother, my brother and his family, children, grandchildren and in-laws all spend a lot of time at my place. There are rooms set aside for family and guests when they come to stay. At family get-togethers I can stand at my kitchen bench and be right at the centre of my house”.

 
Gold

Marija was impressed with Jalcon from the beginning. “The Jalcon showhomes really stood out. Everything was so much nicer, the attention to detail, the quality, the décor and especially the people”. The feeling is mutual. From start to finish, Marija was a pleasure to work with. We even had her two nephews working on site with us as part of the build team. The end-result was convincing to say the least, coming away with Gold at the Master Builders’ House of the Year Awards.

“I simply haven’t got a bad word to say about Jalcon or the building of the house, or anything. It really is just my dream home. It works so beautifully and was finished in time for my daughter’s wedding.”
