Lois, a one-time Real Estate professional, and Tony, a former GM of Pilkington Glass (NZ) are no strangers to the business of homes or construction. Tony’s fastidious attention to detail was a great match for ours and we stayed on the same page from day one. It was also handy having Project Manager Chris Gale living just around the corner!

“There were one or two hiccups, mainly with the glass and cartage, but I’d make a phone call and Jalcon would fix it. They’re a little more expensive than others but when you want the best, you pay for it. It’s worth it”.

 
Exactly what we wanted

When Tony and Lois approached us to design and build, they knew exactly what they wanted. It had to be suitable for entertaining their large extended family, needed a spacious garden and hi-spec glass for a serene westward view of Auckland.

“We have a big family, seven grand-kids and we love having them over, there’s just so much space. When you’re in the kitchen you’re never secluded and you can look right over Auckland out past the Sky Tower to the Waitakeres”.

 
Site... and scene

Keeping the view was important for Tony and Lois. It influenced the design of the garden as well as the house itself. “We built up to keep the size of the section, and opted for a two car garage instead of three. We preferred to keep land in the garden. And the house is sited in line with the swimming pool of the neighbours in front, so our view will never be built-out”.

 
Future and family

Always being people to think ahead, Tony and Lois made to sure to “future-proof” their home in the form of a downstairs bedroom with en suite. “We may get to a point where we don’t want to be climbing stairs anymore!”

Their home is now becoming the place where family return, to get together and reconnect. And that was their dream. “We had our first Christmas here last year with the whole family and we’ve got our son-in-law’s 40th coming up so we’ll have that here as well”. Tony and Lois’ home is ample evidence that good glass gives you great views, and that good families do make great homes.
