Our Story So Far

In 1993 Lindsay Aitken had clocked up just over a decade managing building processes, construction, finance and quantity surveying with Fletcher Residential. But together with wife Julie he had a new goal – to build a 100% family owned company, building beautifully designed architecturally sound homes to accommodate modern living for New Zealand families.

With that direction set, Julie and Lindsay brought JAL Construction to life, trading as Jalcon Homes. Starting out from a home office, the company soon grew and eventually moved to a small upstairs office above a dairy on Kilkenny Drive, Dannemora. As Jalcon Homes grew so did the need for more staff and larger premises. Jalcon designed and built Laidlaw Business Park on Ormiston Road, East Tamaki, now home to the company’s own offices.

Based on a solid foundation of family values, Jalcon Homes soon became known throughout greater Auckland for building top quality, Architecturally designed homes. The brand grew quickly and today Jalcon Homes is recognised by the market and industry alike as the benchmark for solid, great looking, weather-tight homes. At the height of the leaky homes crisis, Jalcon Homes stepped up with a unique warranty developed by Lindsay. “Leaky homes cost home owners and taxpayers millions. We build our 15 Year Weather Tight Warranty into every Jalcon home as a real commitment to long-lasting work. It’s a watertight assurance that your home will not leak”.

Jalcon’s offices are a little bigger now and we have a few more staff but we are still a family company. Lindsay’s sisters Julie and Denise are Duo Design – Jalcon’s in-house interior designers and brother-in-law Chris Gale is Jalcon Homes Construction Manager. When you move into your new Jalcon Home, you will receive a gift-basket made up by Lindsay’s mum, June.

It takes a lot of work to do things the right way, the proper way, but that’s the Jalcon Homes’ brand.
